The Greater St. Louis Knitters’ Guild is pleased to host a weekend of Fair Isle Knitting and Design with Dr. Jennifer Daley of Knitting Jenny.
Whatever your skill level, come to any of the weekend’s events to learn from Dr. Daley about the history and application of techniques developed in Fair Isle, Shetland Islands, Scotland.

Description
The Fair Isle Knitting Workshop includes:
Fair Isle knitting tips, tricks, and techniques
A guided exploration of traditional Fair Isle patterns and motifs
An explanation of ideal yarn properties for Fair Isle knitting
A discussion of Fair Isle knitwear design, including color dominance and color theory
A Fair Isle knitted hat-blocking explanation
A steeking discussion on how and why to safely cut your knitting
During the workshop, students will be knitting the Knitting Jenny pattern that they individually selected.
Bring your
standard knitting tools and notions
yarn (Must be purchased separately. Refer to your individual pattern for the recommended yarn.)

To get the most out of the class do the homework: start your project and knit until the fair isle section.

Description
Interested in designing your own one-of-a-kind Fair Isle project, including jumpers, cardigans, mittens, gloves, headbands, ski hats, Tam o’ Shanters, and fisherman’s keps? Join us for this special Fair Isle design workshop, which includes all the tools, templates, and information necessary to achieve your ideal Fair Isle knitting pattern in a fingering weight yarn or traditional 2-ply jumper weight wool.
Also included is the book Fair Isle Knitting Design Workbook: Create Original Stranded Colorwork Accessories in Shetland Wool.
Students can attend the class with just a pencil and eraser, or they can bring any (or all) of the following to facilitate the in-class design process:
Colored pencils
A tape measure or measuring device
Anything for design inspiration, including pictures or photographs or books
Ideas for their ideal Fair Isle accessory or garment, in terms of color, design, shape, and fit
Any existing Fair Isle knitted item that is an inspiration for a new design
Their own fingering weight yarn stash from which their design colorways can be determined
Any color cards of their favorite fingering weight yarn brand
