The
first newsletter was issued in November, 1985.
The first ads appeared in January, 1986.
The
first by-laws were approved in April, 1986.
The
Guild logo was first used in July, 1986.
The
first directory was distributed in September, 1986.
After
one year, eight Knit-ins had been established.
In March 2008, we have 29 Knit-ins scheduled around town.
The
first evening meetings began during the first year.
We had two meetings each month for several years - a day
and an evening group.
The
Guild Library was established in January, 1987
with materials donated by a member/yarnshop owner when
she closed her shop.
The
first library exhibit was displayed at the Thornhill
Library in November, 1987. A picture of this display appeared
in the Post-Dispatch and inspired dozens of calls inquiring
about the Guild.
The
first fashion show was held in April, 1988.
The
first contest was held in Spring, 1989. A second
one was held approximately two years later.
Tote
bags printed with the Guild logo were made available
in Fall, 1987. Lands End tote bags with our updated
logo were introduced Spring 2005.
The
first local workshop was held in 1990. Members
of the Guild taught. The first visiting teacher workshop
was held in the Spring, 1994 presenting Sandra Beadle.
Our
website was introduced in 2004.
Our
first knitters' retreat was held at Cedar Creek
Conference Center, New Haven, MO in May 2004.
Our
first Knit-Out was held in conjunction with the
Faust Park Folk Festival in September 2004.
Guild
Presidents are elected for 2 year terms.
Charter
Members: Approximately 22 Charter Members (who joined
the Guild during our first six to eight months) are still
current members.
In
February, 2008, we set up a Greater St Louis Knitters'
Guild Ravelry Group on Ravelry
- a knit and crochet community
In
May 2008, membership totaled 419 members!
